Therapy for Adult Children of Immigrants struggling with mental health shame and stigma
“Why would you talk to a stranger when you can talk to us?”
“People like us don’t get depressed/anxious.”
“What will people think?”
…sound familiar?
You’ve been told all your life you can talk to your family, your friends, your community. If there’s anything wrong, you can always count on them to be there. If that’s actually the case, then why do you still feel so alone? Like if you were to be honest and show your “true self”, they wouldn’t understand. You’re terrified they may blame, criticize, or even shame you. A sharp fear and overwhelming sadness begin to fill you up and you feel like there’s no way to let it out. You feel like you’re just one small inconvenience away from completely losing it. You can’t keep living like this, just surviving, day by day.
You’re tired of surviving, you want to thrive.
You’ve heard of therapy, but it never felt like an option for you. “People like you” don’t get help. But have you ever asked yourself “why not”?
The cycle between “Who I should be” and “Who I want to be” ends today.
We all start off vulnerable, like new buds on a bush. With the right care and attention, we are able to give ourselves the chance to blossom into something beautiful.
The Jasmine flower is a beautiful example of this. This iconic flower is known throughout South Asian culture for its traditional and ornate uses. It possesses the ability to show new growth, creating multiple new blossoms and adding to its beauty each day.
I believe that we as people are capable of growing too, just like the Jasmine blossom. That is why I wanted my practice to match the beauty and growth of the Jasmine flower, not only for my namesake, but for the beautiful meaning behind blossoming into your true self.
Allow yourself the chance to blossom into a version of yourself you love and choose.
